What a nightmare - you experience Liverpool Airport lost luggage. Well here we give advice on how you go about claiming for lost, delayed, stolen or damaged baggage.

Liverpool Airport Lost Luggage ...

Even in today's modern World of tracking systems and check-in luggage can still go missing. Liverpool Airport lost luggage, or Liverpool delayed baggage, Liverpool stolen baggage or Liverpool damaged baggage is still experienced by passengers.

Read on for helpful advice if this happens to you:

Here you can add in the name of your airline who has appeared to have lost your luggage and the contact details will be displayed.

Liverpool Lost Luggage ...

Each airport is bound by The British Airports Authority who states that they are responsible for the management, safety and security of your luggage.

Should your baggage appear to go missing during your flight you must report it to the lost baggage desk at the airport.

  • Immediately report your Liverpool lost luggage to the Lost Baggage desk at the airport.
After describing your bags you'll be given a reference tracking number so that you can keep track on the progress of your lost luggage by either phone or via the Internet.

Airlines sometimes as passengers to give them a list of the contents along with receipts for those items in the baggage. Once the airline has accessed the claim, like an insurance company, they will offer you an amount in compensation, however, don't be surprised if this amount if less than what you have claimed for.

In most instances luggage is only deemed as lost after a certain amount of time - BA for example make passengers wait until 21 days have passed.

After this time, for example the 21 days, you and the airline can agree compensation. The offer is made, and most airlines say they are restricted up to £800 per passengers through the Montreal Convention.

Your airline might try and ask you to claim through your travel insurance, however travel insurance policies sometime don't cover baggage that was carried in the aircraft hold.

Connecting Flights

In some cases, if you are having to change flights, you can check your baggage in just once, rather than with each flight.

If this is the case, and your bags go missing you can claim against any one of the airlines who you flew with. If they refuse your claim it's worth reminding them they are in breach of the Montreal Convention.

Limited Release Tags

Limited Release Tags (LRT) are sometimes put on baggage such as prams, musical instruments or sports equipment. The LTR is considered by the airline to remove any liability if something happens to them during the flight i.e. they get lost or damaged.

However, if your airline has accepted to carry your luggage - they have loaded it onto the craft they have to accept responsiblity for it as set out by the Montreal Convention.

Liverpool Delayed Luggage ...

The Montreal Convention states that a traveller's baggage is only termed as delayed before 21 days.

So in the meantime of waiting for your luggage airlines can offer several emergency payments:

Some release an immediate payment for emergency goods like toiletries.

Others pay a set amount of money per day up to a maximum number of days. Whilst some need you to buy the emergency goods and then they reimburse you.

Once your bags have still not turned up after 21 days you can start making a claim against the airline.

Liverpool Damaged Baggage...

Any damage claim is based on the value of the luggage and its contents, if the latter is also being claimed for. If the contents being claimed for then original receipts may be asked for.

If just the luggage is damaged the airline normally goes to their store cupboard and replaces the case immediately.

Stolen Items ...

It's very difficult to prove, thus making claims quite rare, for stolen goods. the reason is it's very difficult to prove that the goods were in the case - even with receipts.

So as a general rule always travel with robust luggage where you can and keep any valuables carried with you in your hand luggage.

Also check that the airline doesn't have a clause in it's T&Cs whereby they don't accept responsibility for any valuable or perishable goods i.e. camcorders, cameras, mobile phones etc.

Also, any items you are claiming for that are considered as part of the airline's “items unacceptable as baggage” won't be able to be claimed for either.

Tips In Advance Of Travelling ...

Should the worst happen, if you'd applied some of these tips, sourcing your luggage might have been easier.

  • Make a detailed list of everything that's packed inside your suitcase as the changes are your airline will want a list for valuation

  • Write on a piece of paper your name and address and put it inside your case just in case the luggage label falls off

  • Think about using a specialist service like Flymycase to transport your precious luggage

  • Keep your receipts for goods packed in your case

  • Always pack valuable items like jewellery, cameras etc. in your hand luggage

  • Always go away with travel insurance so you know you are fully covered - get some advice from our Travel Insurance Page
