Flying From Liverpool With Children ...

Don't be put off flying just because you now have a young family. It doesn't have to be scary, and with a little careful planning it will all work out fine! Read on for our guide with great tips and ideas to help parents cope when travelling through the airport and flying with very young children.

Seat Allocation For Children ...

First and foremost, before you travel, check with the airline (or ask your travel agent) what their policies are for seating for families with young children.

It's the bulkhead seats at the front of each cabin section that have facilities for your child. Most airlines reserve these for families, with some airlines letting you pre-book but, with others operating a first come, first serve basis. So it is always best to contact your airline in advance

Easy Check- in with Young Children ...

Make sure you give yourself bags of time to get to the airport so you won't be rushing and panicking. Just think how long it takes to get out to the shops at a weekend, well with suitcases and passports to remember, it could be extra tricky.

It's best to plan your journey, carefully working out the time you will need in order to leave your house, to arriving at check-in. Do this, and then, to be on the safe side add at least half an hour.

Do you know the way to the airport so that you don’t get lost? What about an alternative route if there are any road works or delays? At the very least make sure there's a map in your car.

Flying with Young Children ...

You've left home in good time, only to get to the airport and find that it takes another 45 minutes to get from the car park, via a bus, to the terminal. Well, keep your stress levels to a minimum by pre-booking meet and greet parking when travelling with children.

All you need to do is unload your luggage (and children!) outside the terminal and go straight to check-in. Your car is taken to a secure car park by the meet and greet Rep. On your return, your car will be waiting outside the airport terminal ready for the final journey home.

Ask the Ground Hostess if the flight is full. Most will do their best to find you a seat next to an empty one, or block the seat next to you so that you have more room and the children can use the spare seats as beds.

Families are asked to board first so be ready to board when called. This is so you can get on the plane early as the cabin crew will be in a better position to help you.

Using these simple tips you'll minimise any nasty surprises that could send you into a panic!

Advice On Baby Foods & Water Abroad ...

Baby Foods

If you are worried about flying overseas with a young toddler or baby, read the following section that covers how you can buy baby foods and milk when abroad. It also helps clear up the myths surrounding bottled water for babies when overseas.

First of all think about your baby food requirements when you're packing. Some jars and some formula milk won't take up room in your case, and can be used as soon as you arrive. This way you won't have to rushing off out in a panic trying to find emergency formula milk straight away.

Bottled Water For Babies

Don't, due to baby's delicate tummy, give your baby tap water to drink when overseas. Give your baby bottled water for drinking. For making up formula also use bottled water and boil first as you would back home in the UK. When you buy bottled water it is very important to check that the bottled water you are buying contains no more than 30 Na of sodium. If you’re travelling to Spain you'll find that many of the pharmacies sell specially distilled water for babies.
Formula Milk

Formula milk is readily available in Europe, however you will need to go to a pharmacy to buy it. Similar milk powder brands are available but do carry a different name, Cow & Gate in Spain for example is actually called Almiron. Any other queries about buying your particular brand of formula milk abroad should be asked to the manufacturer of your milk brand - call their telephone advice line on the pack of the milk packet.
Buying Jarred Baby Foods

Parents and families holidaying in Europe will find it easy to buy baby food in jars. Across Europe a brand called Hero is a very available. Hipp is also readily available and so are products from Nestle. Local supermarkets, although if you are somewhere small then try a larger main supermarket, should all stock a good selection of baby foods and snacks. As will most pharmacies.
Nappies

You can buy nappies in almost all supermarkets where you'll find the main brands like as Pamper and Huggies readily available. It’s important to note that in many European Countries cotton nappies are very rare, particularly in Spain, so if you normally use re-useable nappies then you may need to consider using disposables whilst you are away.
