| DVT Explained |
| |
DVT is where blood clots within the deep veins of the calf, thigh or pelvis. Because the blood flow has become slow and sluggish, as the blood is dehydrated, or that the body is recovering from trauma like abdominal surgery, heart disease or recent childbirth.
A concerning sequel to DVT is where a piece of the blood clot, called a pulmonary embolus, breaks off, travelling to the right side of the heart, causing heart problems or even heart attack.
It's because of the cramped seating space that the body cannot pump the blood as quickly through the body as it would normally, hence why long haul passengers are more at risk from suffering from DVT, as a general rule |
